History Of The Super Bowl In Florida

More than 1/3 of all Super Bowls have been played in the Sunshine State. The Super Bowl has been played more times in Florida than any other state. Including Super Bowl XLIV 2010 in Miami, 15 games have been played in Florida. Other states that have hosted the Super Bowl are California (13), Louisiana (7), Texas (2), Georgia (2), Arizona (2), Michigan (2), and Minnesota (1).

Super Bowl XLIV is the 10th Super Bowl in Miami. The other Florida Super Bowls were played in Tampa(4 games) and Jacksonville (1 game).

Pespsi Smash Super Bowl Bash Update

Award-winning musical sensations Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy and Lifehouse will be showcased in the NFL PEPSI SMASH SUPER BOWL BASH on Thursday, Jan. 29 and Friday, Jan. 30 in Tampa, Florida.The NFL Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Bash, which includes two concerts, will take place at the Ford Amphitheatre, which is located in Tampa, Florida, home of Super Bowl XLIII. Rihanna, Fall Out Boy To Headline Super Bowl Event

Rihanna, Enrique Inglesias, Fall Out Boy and Lifehouse will perform at the NFL Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Bash prior to the big game in Tampa on Feb. 1. Actor Jerry O'Connell will host the concert that will be broadcast on VH1 at 9 p.m. Other performers will be added to the bill at a later date. Two concerts, to be held Jan. 29 and 30 at the Ford Amphitheatre, will feature award-winning singers, celebrity hosts, guest appearances by NFL stars, and will be featured on VH1 and Telemundo. Outback Bowl Beach Day

Outback Bowl Beach Day will be held Tuesday, December 30th from 11 - 4, at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort on Mandalay Avenue. This annual event will include live music, skydivers, and contests like tug-of-war. Everyone is invited to join the teams, their marching bands and cheerleaders as they enjoy the sun and beaches at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort. NFL Experience Tickets On Sale

Tickets for the NFL Experience went on sale Wednesday and opens on Jan. 24th at Raymond James Stadium, site of Super Bowl XLIII on Feb. 1st 2009. Also, NFLX After Dark opens the festival for adults only from 9 p.m. to midnight Jan. 29. The NFL Experience has been around for 18 years and will span 850,000 square feet featuring over 50 interactive games and attractions. Proceeds will be donated to two NFL Youth Education Towns of Tampa Bay. Attractions: areas where fans can pass, punt, kick and catch footballs; a kids zone with games for ages 3 to 10; autograph sessions with current and former NFL players; a Donruss Super Bowl card show; a Pro Football Hall of Fame Throwbacks exhibit; event sponsored by Under Armour that simulates NFL Combine testing. Super Dogs Prepare For Game Day

Tampa Bay area police dogs (and their humans) are beginning their Super Bowl training. According to the Tampa police department, the dogs, mostly laborador retrievers, will check vehicles for explosives and do stadium sweeps for dangerous substances. The retrievers are specially trained to detect illegal and dangerous things. (German shepherds are usually trained to apprehend suspects).

Yacht Bowl Scrapped

"Super Yacht Bowl," a 4 day yacht hop and cocktail party was scheduled from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2 at Vinoy Marina, St. Petersburg Municipal Marina and Port St. Pete. The number of yachts needed did not sign up.Organizers were looking to have about 30 yachts to rent slips at local marinas by the end of September but only had 6 by mid October. Event organizer site the economy as the main reason for the low interest. It didn’t help that last month, the NFL abruptly cancelled its huge Saturday Night Spectacular, which crowds and sponors were counting on, planned for Vinoy Waterfront Park the night before the game. Some yacht owners will still dock in Tampa Bay for the big game, regardless of the organized party.

Super Bowl Is A Good Neighbor

Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit group that follows Super Bowl as the big game moves from city to city. The group rehabilitates old homes around football stadiums that host the NFL's biggest event, and they have started scouting out homes in the West Tampa Area. Projects include foundations and plumbing, and clean up. The last time Tampa played host to the Super Bowl, volunteers helped fix up three homes. This year, they plan to repair 15. The NFL has announced that tickets will cost $800 and $1,000 for Super Bowl XLIII at Raymond James Stadium. Last year’s ticket prices were $700 and $900.

NFL Commissioner In Town

National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell was in town for a luncheon to provide an update on the status of Super Bowl planning. He spoke to Tampa business leaders and elected officials. He said he expects the 2009 Super Bowl should provide a much-needed economic boost for the region. The NFL expects 100,000 people to visit during the Super Bowl, shop at local stores and eat in local restaurants.

ESPN Party To Be Held On Vacant Lot

ESPN the Magazine is known for unusual locations for it's parites, and Super Bowl 43 is no different. Thier VIP party will take place Friday at a parking lot in downtown Tampa at the corner of Jefferson and E Whiting. It will be an exclusive VIP party event with a red carpet and tent party, with minimal public admission.

Super Bowl Saturday Night Cancelled

Earlier this year, the NFL announced plans for a free “Super Bowl Saturday Night” the night before the big game at Vinoy Park in St. Pete. It was to be the 2nd annual such event; last year’s in Arizona featured fireworks, performances by Counting Crows, and more than 30,000 people showed up. Now it appears the party is off. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league has decided to focus its attention elsewhere. The NFL will still hold the NFL Experience during the week leading up to the game, and the Pepsi Smash Concert Series at the Ford Amphitheatre on January 28th and 29th.

Super Bowl Half Time Show Set

The NFL has announced that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band would perform at halftime of Super Bowl XLIII and you can join Bruce and company on the field. Producers are looking for about 600 "roadies" to help run the stages onto the field and perform various duties during the pregame show and in the hectic minutes leading up to Bruce's performance. Volunteers must be at least 18, and you can volunteer for the pregame show or the halftime show, but not both. You won't get a ticket to the game but the NFL will post an announcement looking for "fans" to run on the field during the show in the coming weeks. Super Bowl Vendors Must Follow Rules

The Super Bowl isn't just a football game, it's a chance for people to make money. The city is working on a "clean zone" ordinance that will set rules for vendors who want to sell merchandise. People want to sell everything from stuffed animals to sea shells. Not all of them are aware that they need to be licensed by the NFL to sell logo matierials. City officials are also hoping to deter "house parties" near the stadium that charge admission fees in exchange for all the food and alcohol. These parties amount to alcohol sales, which require a license from the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco and a permit from the city.

Lingerie Bowl VI Coming To Tampa

The 2009 Lingerie Bowl will be in Tampa — the exact location for the Lingerie Bowl will be announced soon, but the three-day festivities will include red-carpet events and appearances by Buccaneers and Hollywood celebs. Calling itself "true fantasy football," the Lingerie Football League features women playing football in sports bras, bikini briefs, helmets and some pads. Their season parallels the NFL schedule and ends with the Lingerie Bowl, televised to seduce viewers away from the Super Bowl halftime show. The Lingerie Football League is made up of 10 teams, including the Tampa Breeze, which kicks off its inaugural season with a party on Friday.

NFL Reps In Town

More than 130 NFL representatives are in town to meet with local government and business officials and the Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee, the biggest joint planning week of the year until December. The agenda includes everything from discussions of concerts to recycling to security. Senior officials will stop by Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg, which is being considered as the possible location for Super Bowl Saturday Night, an event that debuted during the 2008 Super Bowl in Arizona. More than 30,000 people turned out for fireworks and and free concerts. Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio will meet Thursday with Frank Supovitz, senior vice president of events for the NFL. Iorio has pledged to contribute $1-million of in-kind services to the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Will Boost Vacation Rentals

The Super Bowl is months away, but a lot of Tampa Bay homeowners are hoping to cash in. Realtors are preparing by calling clients and building inventory for private property rentals. Some are even high profile local celebrities. Former NBA player and owner of Courtside Grille, Matt Geiger is renting out a residence for Super Bowl 43, hoping to get $20k a day for his 28,000 square foot home. It sound steep, but some VIPs, promoters, and corporations are looking for high end rentals. Homes with extra amenities, like a pool, being on the water, or close to the stadium. Including transportation also helps, some high end owners are even throwing in a limousine. Richard Egolf, Broker of PropCo Real Estate in Clearwater says their office has been receiving rental requests since Tampa Bay was announced as the host, mostly for beachfront condos in Clearwater Beach and Sand Key. A lot of vistors will bring family members who will not be attending the game, and want to enjoy a nice vacation. Agents expect to get $3500 - $100,000 per week for their nicer rentals. Over 100,000 visitors are expected to visit the area.

Super Bowl Host Committee Needs 6,000 Volunteers

The date and location are set, now the push is on to get volunteers. The Tampa Bay Super Bowl Host Committee needs 6,000 volunteers to greet visitors at the airport and area hotels, help with transportation. Volunteers must be at least 18-years-old by November 2008 and agree to a background check and be willing to volunteer for two four-hour shifts. Applications will be available on line starting Tuesday, April 1t. Volunteers get a hat, shirt, and jacket to keep. Sorry, no tickets.
